Humanities Computing / Digital Humanities Academy

Proposal Jan. 11, 2015

Dear Friends and Colleagues, The present conditions of Digital Humanities are favourably crucial. Academic colleagues, scholars, and administrative officers for research funding and teaching organization have grown aware that the cultural patrimony is becoming digital and its transformation should be conveniently helped. We are of the opinion that it is our duty to call the attention of those people to the necessity of a correct theoretical foundation of activity in Digital Humanities (Humanities Computing), and the consequent evaluation of the enterprises on the basis of their methodology and procedures. This is why we propose the launch of an Academy, which should assume that task. The draft of Statues, in attachment, makes it explicit and manifest its theoretical premises and the eventual mode of operation. (Operative details like the social structure, the roles, the legal registration, etc. will be discussed later.) Those of the recipients of this letter (the list is inside the draft), who share the idea and want to participate in the foundation of the Academy, are cordially invited to reply with a statement of interest. They will be invited to participate at the foundational meeting. Tito Orlandi, also in the name of Dino Buzzetti, Gerhard Lauer, Raul Mordenti, Manfred Thaller
