Conference in Memory of Sarah J. Clackson, 25-26 September 2004 We will remember the scholarship and work of the Coptic papyrologist Sarah Clackson, who died last year, at a conference to be held at Christ Church, Oxford, on September 25-26 of this year. The conference program can be found on the poster attached to this message. Sarah was always very proud of, and clear about, the contribution that Coptic papyrology can make to our understanding of late antique and early Islamic Egypt. Before her death she had expressed the wish to donate her notes and papers to the Griffith Institute for other scholars to work on, and to create a fund to facilitate such work and support related projects in Coptic papyrology. The Sarah Clackson Fund for Coptic Papyrology was established at the Griffith Institute in Oxford in January 2004. The fund currently has more than £ 20,000 the annual proceeds of which will be granted to projects furthering the study of Coptic papyrology. You can support this work by contributing directly to the fund by sending a donation to Oxford University Development Office, Oxenford House, Magdalen Street, Oxford OX1 3AB, attention Paul Rickett, and adding a note that it is for the S. J. Clackson memorial fund. For American donors it is also possible to send your contribution in dollars to the Oxford University North American Office, 198 Madison Avenue, New York NY 10016, and again saying that it is for the same fund. The cheque should be made out to American Friends of Oxford. -- Petra M. Sijpesteijn Christ Church Oxford OX1 1DP www.princeton.edu/~petras
